Grants

The Port Men in Sheds

The Port Men in Sheds are a charity that supports men from the age of 18, tackling isolation, loneliness, bereavement and mental health issues by providing a space to ‘meet, make and communicate.’

With the grant, the charity hopes to create and refurbish a ‘Mess Room’ for members to meet and socialise. Currently, the room is in need of improvement as it is not a comfortable place to meet. The walls are in need of decoration, new window, new flooring and a small kitchen/tea making area.

Refugee Assist CIC

Refugee Assist is a group of volunteers that provides essential and emergency support to refugees and asylum seekers particularly on arrival in the CWAC area, providing support in the form of essential items, such as clothing, toiletries, bedding, small household items and other assistance necessary to enable refugees and asylum seekers to settle successfully and adapt to life in their new environment.

The grant will enable the group to continue providing for those in need, maintaining and improving community cohesion where possible.

LBC KIDS - Club Activity Equipment

Elton Primary School plans to utilise the grant to acquire a selection of inclusive outdoor activity equipment designed for children of all ages and abilities. This initiative aims to ensure that every child, regardless of their physical or developmental needs, can engage in enriching and enjoyable play experiences.

The newly acquired equipment will be integrated into a new after-school club, running for three hours each evening. This club will be open to all students, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for children to explore and play.

West Kirby Grammar School - Creation of Wildlife Habitat

The Grammar School's Echo-Committee plans to use the funding to transform a piece of land into a vibrant wildlife habitat. The enriched environment will feature the planting of fruit and berry trees, native wildflowers, as well as the installation of hedgehog houses, bird boxes, and bat boxes. Additionally, the committee aims to set up a wildlife camera to monitor nocturnal visitors.

By engaging in this project, students will gain hands-on experience and a deeper appreciation for wildlife conservation, fostering a sense of environmental stewardship and responsibility.

Saluto - Speech Therapy

Local speech and language therapists provide life-changing treatment, support and care for children and adults who have difficulties with communication, eating, drinking and swallowing.

Saluto Speech Therapy plans to use the grant funding to expand its crucial services, specifically targeting local children who are disabled, neglected, or disadvantaged. This funding will enable Saluto to further enhance its support network and make a significant positive impact on the lives of these children.

Elton Parish Council

Elton Parish Council would like to further enhance their Community Garden by transforming an overgrown field into a multifunctional space for the community.

This ongoing project, which began a few years ago, provides picnic areas, spaces to enjoy the outdoors and features newly planted fruit trees. Once these trees mature, local residents will be able to pick a variety of fruits.

The grant will enable further project development, and access to local volunteers.

Ellesmere Port Food Initiative Group

The  Food Initiative Group (FIG) was created as a result of the pandemic, offering emergency food and hygiene hampers to the local community.

In addition to this the group offer experiences such as picnic in the park, a trip to the Welsh Mountain Zoo, the beach, a trip to Applejacks farm and Christmas craft afternoons. The trips also include a hot meal upon return. The grant will help to further fund this essential initiative, providing hampers and offering experiences to families in need of support.

1st Great Sutton Scout Troop

The Summer Camp is the highlight of the Scouting year. It consists of a seven-night camp, with the Scouts taking part in a wide range of activities.

The skills these young people learn will stay with them for life, benefitting their families and the generations of scouts that will follow them.  For example, they will be cooking, washing dishes and helping keep the campsite clean and tidy throughout the week.

The grant this year will allow scouts to complete a full first aid course, an essential skill for life.

Orchard Park Residents Association

The Orchard Park Residents Association, an over 50's residential home, would like to obtain and place a defibrillator in a disused telephone box on Orchard Park in Elton.

The telephone box will be restored by volunteers and provide a vital resource for the facility.

Maggie's Wirral - Men's Cancer Support Group

The aim of this project is to bring together like-minded men to provide opportunities for men to talk to other men who are facing similar circumstances.

The group offers a safe place to express thoughts, emotions and to explore how to develop coping strategies for living well with cancer. The chance for men to normalise anxious thoughts and feelings share their experiences, their concerns, and fears.

The funding will help men not lose the joy of living, in the fear of dying.
