The Neuromuscular Centre - Adapted Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Neuromuscular Centre work with young people aged up to 24 years of age who have Muscular Dystrophy. This progressive muscle wasting condition results in those affected living with physical disabilities and face many barriers to participating in activities.
The centre wish to use the grant to deliver an adapted Duke of Edinburgh Award programme which will enable young people with physical disabilities to complete the Award.
The NMC will work with the DofE to develop and adapt the program to ensure that all 4 elements of the Award - Physical, Skills, Volunteering and Expedition can be achieved by the target group.
Elton Primary School and Nursery: Parent, teacher & friends association (PTFA)
Earlier this year, the school's PTFA convened and decided to assist the school in offering an educational trip or workshop for each class.
Currently, both parents and the school face challenges in providing these opportunities due to financial constraints.
The school believes that supporting these trips is crucial as they not only enhance education and reinforce the curriculum but also offer children valuable enrichment experiences and the chance to explore new places.
St Oswalds School PTA
St Oswald's Primary School is a small village primary close to the refinery that, like other schools are stretched for funding and cashflow to generate improvements.
The school has a large, mostly empty playground and would love the opportunity to enhance it by installing new fencing, creating a multi-use games area, and adding tennis nets and fixed basketball hoops.
These upgrades would greatly benefit PE sessions and playtimes, and the school also hopes to use the space for further after-school tennis lessons.
New Brighton Pride
New Brighton Pride aims to provide a safe space for the local LGBT+ community to celebrate and honour their history.
This marks the third year of New Brighton Pride, and starting this year, it will expand into a year-round organisation dedicated to supporting the community.
The initiative will begin with drop-in clinics, offering a place where individuals can seek support and access various services.
Hawarden Air Cadets – Engaging training (Hawarden)
The RAF Air Cadets’ engaging training programme helps young people reach their full potential by gaining and improving key life skills like confidence, communication and leadership.
This funding will supply three screens to enable an excellent field of view for a fixed simulator and a more portable screen for the X-box-based simulator, which will provide recruitment support at events to interest new young people in joining up.
Rossmore School – Broadening horizons (Ellesmere Port)
Rossmore School really values being able to take its students out into the big wide world on trips that will broaden their knowledge and support their wellbeing.
But, with the ever-decreasing school budgets, these experiences are now unaffordable for many parents. This grant provides a glimmer of hope as it will enable the school to support those parents who need a helping hand and make residentials a reality again.
The Beyond Recovery Project CIC – Walks Beyond Recovery (Ellesmere Port)
Supporting the mental health and wellbeing of brain tumour survivors struggling to deal with lifelong physical and psychological side effects of their diagnosis and treatment, through the provision of outdoor and nature-based activities and therapies.
The CIC holds regular forest days and "Walks Beyond Recovery" events led by brain tumour survivors and their carers. This grant will provide training for more walk leaders and allow the CIC to hold more events.
Stanney Grange Community Centre - Good to Grow
Stanney Grange are a self-managed community building, used by local residents of all generations and stages of life in one of the most deprived areas of Ellesmere Port.
The grant will be used to improve the community centre’s outdoor space, where they hope locals can relax and grow food for the community kitchen which provides subsidised food and food parcels each week.
8th Ellesmere Port Scouts - Disabled Toilet Block at Scout Cottage
The 8th Ellesmere Port Scouts have been running for over 80 years, and for the last 50 years have had a Cottage which we've used as an activity centre to give the young people aged from 4 through to 18 years from our community the chance to experience outdoor activities and connect with the environment.
To bring the Cottage up to modern standards, the Scouts will use the grant to upgrade the facilities, allowing them to expand access to the activity centre and continue enriching the lives of local youth for many years to come.
Spirit of the Herd - Ponies helping People Ltd
Spirit of the Herd use rescue & rehabilitated horses to facilitate activities that foster and aid social inclusion particularly for children and young people who may have low mood, stress, anxiety, self-harm behavioural patterns and neurodivergent conditions.
They wish to use the grant to expand and improve efficiency, capacity, accessibility and health and safety of existing facilities to meet the growing demand for facilitated mental health and wellbeing equine-assisted therapy sessions for people of all ages from the local area.
